Mecum Offers McLaren Speedtail at Indy

If you’re in the market for the ultimate in McLaren performance, you’ll need to watch this year’s Mecum Indy sale.

The company will offer one of the 106 McLaren Speedtails built, this one featuring just 275 miles from new.

The Speedtail was the fourth of the Ultimate Series, following the Senna, the P1 and the F1. It’s the first of the “Hyper-GT” cars built, capable of 250 mph thanks to its 1,035-hp 4.0-L engine and hybrid eMotor. Its the fastest road-going McLaren yet built — and the chances to buy one are limited with so few built. When new, McLaren pre-approved buyers, so this is a rare open-market shot at a top performer.

This car was specced out in McLaren Special Operations Heritage Gloss Steel Blue over Semi-Aniline Metallic Blue Silver leather with orange contrasts. It has gloss silver wheels with carbon fiber speed covers on the fronts, a carbon fiber steering wheel, titanium paddle shifters, carbon ceramic brakes and more.

This car is being sold on a “show and display” exemption, and transfer of ownership will need to be approved by the NHTSA — but Mecum will be working with both the buyer, seller and government entities to ensure that the “show and display” rules are understood and met. In short, it will mean less than 2,500 miles of use per year — but considering how most cars of this caliber are actually used, that shouldn’t end up being an issue for the next collector owner.

As for value, we’ve seen several Speedtails sell over the past year, including a 30-mile example at RM Sotheby’s Phoenix sale in January, 2021. That car, finished in Heritage Atlantic Blue, sold for $3,277,500 under the same “show and display” rules. The market has grown since.

Mecum’s Indy sale takes place May 13-21, and this car is offered as lot F141. Learn more about it here.
