$31m Achieved at Broad Arrow’s Amelia Island Auction

Broad Arrow Auctions wrapped its inaugural Amelia Island sale on March 4 with four new world records and a sales total of $30,923,600. Five non-automotive lots began the action before 108 collectable vehicles crossed the auction block. After the gavel fell for the final time at the Ritz-Carlton, 92 of the 113 lots offered sold to new owners for an 81 percent sell-through rate.

Supercars performed well at the auction and accounted for the top three sales. In the top spot was a 2015 McLaren P1 at $2,425,000 that was part of a trio of McLaren supercars laden in carbon fiber. The price paid for the unique P1 set a new record for the model.

Two halo cars from Stuttgart followed the P1 on the top sales list. In second was a 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort that traded hands for $1,710,000 with a menacing black 2005 Porsche Carrera GT just behind at $1,517,500. Creating a bookend of McLarens, a 1,380,000 2019 Senna landed in the fourth spot.

Another record broken by Broad Arrow in Amelia came from the sale of a 2002 Lotus Esprit V8 25^th Anniversary Edition at $193,500, a new high-water mark for an Esprit without a connection to a certain British spy named James Bond. Also setting a record for the model was a 1997 Acura Integra Type R, selling across the block for $151,200.

The final record smashed at the Ritz was a new high sum achieved by a 124 Series Mercedes-Benz. It was first set by lot 150 — a 1987 Mercedes-Benz AMG “Hammer” sedan — selling for $775k. However, just 20 lots later that sum was eclipsed by the $885k paid for a 1991 AMG 6.0 “Hammer” Widebody coupe.

While modern cars grabbed many headlines at the auction, the sale of several European classics did make a mark. Selling for $1,270,000, a 1932 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Series V Gran Sport Figoni roadster landed on the top ten sales list. As did an impeccably restored 1937 Bugatti Type 57C Vanvooren roadster that sold to a new caretaker for $1,132,500.
