From April 3 to April 12, bidders will have a chance at one of the top cars of the 2000s Formula One era: Schumacher’s 2000 Ferrari F2000.
This car, on offer via RM Sotheby’s Sealed, is the car campaigned by Michael Schumacher in his first F1-winning season with Ferrari. It’s the car that he drove to victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and it’s the car that put him on the pole at Monaco — the only pole position he achieved at Monaco during all of his championship years.
The F2000 was a groundbreaking racer for Ferrari, and it hit the scene just in time for Schumacher to make best use of it. It featured advanced aerodynamics and a special, redesigned 90-degree V10 that helped to slightly lower the car’s center of gravity. Those factors, combined with Schumacher’s talents behind the wheel, came together in victory for Ferrari — and started a dynasty of World Championships that lasted for five years straight.
After its days in F1, chassis 198 returned to Maranello and was rebuilt. It was displayed in March 2001 at the Geneva Motor Show before being sold to a private collector in Texas. Since that time, the car has been Classiche certified, and it’s been used in a number of Ferrari Corse Clienti events — and it’s certainly eligible for more.
RM Sotheby’s will be offering this car for sale via its sealed bid process starting on April 3.
