Gooding & Co. Geared Online Brings Carrera RS Lightweight to Market

Gooding’s Geared Online event is just days away — and the consignment list has evolved in the weeks leading up to the sale, with additional lots on offer that add even more depth to the all-no-reserve online event.

Chief among these lots is a Gulf Blue 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Lightweight, estimated to be worth from $1.3m to $1.6m.

“The importance of Porsche’s RS 2.7 cannot be overstated,” says Angus Dykman, Gooding & Company Specialist. “It redefined performance for 1970s sports cars and was an integral part of Porsche’s racing efforts of the period. We’re proud to offer an exceedingly rare M471 Lightweight specification example that is one of just four finished in the iconic Porsche color of Gulf Blue, making this car especially desirable for the true Porsche enthusiast. It headlines this Geared Online auction, which features other significant Porsches, American collectibles, and an incredible selection of motorcycles from The Adam Lindemann Motorcycle Collection.”

This car, s/n 9113600263, was built in late ’72 and was originally delivered to the official Porsche distributor in Sweden. It’s one of just 200 M471 Lightweight RS models built from new, and was fitted with a limited-slip rear and headrests. An accident in 1974 caused its Porsche mechanic second owner to repair the car, to include replacing the roof. The car remained in Sweden until 1987. It later spent time with collectors in the US and in Europe, and comes with receipts for £15,000 in mechanical work and maintenance carried out by the experts at Maxted-Page from 2011 to 2020. The car retains its matching numbers engine and gearbox.

Another rare Porsche to be sold is a 2019 911 Speedster “Heritage Design Package,” which is one of 1,948 991 Speedsters built. The Heritage Design Package — a $24,510 option when new — adds classic-inspired styling and design elements via Porsche Exclusive. This is a one-owner car with just 52 miles on the odometer. Gooding estimates it to be worth from $385,000 to $425,000.

The auction runs from December 4 at 9 am PST, with lots beginning to close on December 8 at 9 am PST.
