Mecum Scores Second-Biggest Dallas Sale Yet

Mecum Auctions has been hosting its annual Dallas auction for over a decade now — and for those of you tracking sales information to understand overall market strength, here’s a data point to consider: Mecum saw the second highest total ever at this year’s event.

In total, Mecum sold 1,218 cars for a combined $47m at the start of September. The sell-through rate was 74%.

Collections made up a big part of this year’s sale — there were 15 in total — and accounted for some of the highest priced lots. The top seller was the 1933 Auburn 12-165 Salon Speedster (Lot F88) from the headlining Paul L. Kelsey, Kelsey Automotive Museum Collection. This car is one of only 14 produced and one of five known to still exist, and it took the high seller spot at $990,000.

The Fabulous Fords Collection included 27 Mustang and Shelby cars, while The Angelone Z Car Collection presented eight Datsun and Nissan Z models. Nine vehicles from the Destin Florida Cars group included mostly modern high-performance sports and muscle cars, two of which landed among the auction’s top sellers: a 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia (Lot S100) and the 2008 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR Roadster (Lot S102) selling for $286,000 each.

Mopars, movie cars and more were also highlights among Dallas collection offerings.

Other top sales in Dallas included a trio of Corvettes—including the last C7 ZR1 produced (Lot S218) that sold for $410,000 — as well as a 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible (Lot S223) that brought $330,000 and a 2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO Coupe (Lot S152.1) that sold for $324,500.
